Hi Rob,
the new website is great! You did that yourself with WordPress? Amazing!
One question: I want to go back to premium.
As I mainly learn on the go I use my mobile phone to watch tutorials.
So as recommended I switched the video player to ultra lightweight.
This works great as it reduces the used bandwidth considerably.
The problem: It seems that the player changes on some videos but not on others.
E. g. the “Building Fills” - a course I’d like to watch next - intro video is still on the fullblown player.
I also checked in a different browser just in case the problem is the video already being cached or so, but same problem there. Am I doing something wrong?
Thank you for clarification,
Andi
Hey Andi,
I think that just that intro video is not on the other server at this time. Don’t really know why, but probably because I forgot to put it there :-). When the alternate video is not available the site automatically shows the “normal” one as a fallback.
I think 98% of the course videos do have the lightweight version available at this time so it wont happen that often. It’s not a caching thing!
Hi Rob thought I would put this in here instead of starting a new thread and my question is also about the video player. I’ve been watching the videos on Chrome through the site and whilst the videos are great one issue I’ve found is that the video will often freeze at certain intervals. It’s not a buffering or internet issue as I can get the video to continue playing but have to jump forward a few seconds so it will keep playing. I was wondering if anyone else has reported this issue/if there’s a know solution to it? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hey Joshuwarr,
I think the issue comes from the video player itself. I use this custom player from Foliovision, which has a lot of great features, but it’s not the most stable script out there. For that reason there is a fallback option available to select in your user dashboard, which will then enable the standard vimeo player.
That should make things a lot more stable. Maybe switch that on and see if it helps?
Thanks Rob I appreciate you getting back to me. I will switch that over, I’m sure that should fix the problem. Thanks again

Ok, if the Vimeo player also gives you trouble there’s a third option that routes everything through another server. A bit of an extreme fallback (which i might not be able to use in the future because jwplayer raised their prices to like $2000 year) but for now it works!
It’s all sorted now, I switched to the lightweight player and the problem went away immediately. Thanks for helping me out. Also really enjoying the courses so far, just subscribed as I just finished the free lessons, you’ve made the process so simple and enjoyable.
Thanks again
Josh
