Addictive drums sounds great - no doubt. But I’m struggling to bring myself to pay so much for them, when drumming is just part of what I’m trying to do. Is there any way to change the pads on teh Maschine Mikro Mk3 so that I cna have it laid out like in QFG, or does anyone know another programme that will allow me to map the drums?
In quest for groove is this
Also I dont know how far you are with drumming, but since im still doing basic beat is addictive drums demo version enough.
Ah, thanks. I didn’t see this. Will look into it. the demo version of AD2 is good, but only gives you kick, snare and closed HH, I’d need more very quickly.
However, on an interesting note, I discovered that you can indeed remap the drums to different pads in Maschine. I haven’t fully sorted it and figured how to save it as anew instrument, but it seems it’s possible after all.
@Gordonrobb, you could look at MK Drums. This is a freebie, just google free VSTs, MK Drms or similar. I think Simon Slater does a free set of his kits, they are normally the price of AD2 but there is a free version. There is a feed on here much further down to do with Ableton Drum Racks where there is a video link to Sanjey C’s YouTube vids where he demos how to get Native Instrument sounds from their software direclty into a Drum Rack.
Hope it helps.
Thanks. I have decided to try to send back the Maschine Mikro Mk3. I am going to be using Cubasis 3 on iPad (so far I really like it) and really want something I can learn to finger drum on that I can use on the iPad. I had thought that, being class compliant, the Maschine would work on iPad in Midi controller mode, but alas this is not the case. Now I need to decide whether to go for a lesser quality pad, or give ups on finger drumming entirely.
Hi Gordon,
I was just wondering about using the Mikro Mk3 with an iPad…
Did you try connecting the Mikro to an audio interface (like a Focusrite) and then connecting the Focusrite to the iPad (like I describe here: Looking for USB Hub Recommendations for iPad Pro - #2 by bwood)?
Was the problem just getting Cubasis to learn the Mikro midi signals? Did you try using an app like AUM to learn the signals?
Thanks for any insight you can provide!
Brian
Hey, yeh, that’s how I was connecting it. The Maschine Powers on ok, but just doesn’t go into Midi Mode (or whatever it’s called). The machine is ‘supposed’ to be class compliant, but having looked itnto it, too be used, even just as a Midi Driver, it has to be connected to a PC. I love the machine, but I don’t what to be working on my PC, I have an otherwise good workflow with iPad Pro.
Thanks for the info!
This is a free drum kit that is also mappable: SSD Free - Steven Slate Drums
Hey @Robert_Mathijs I have seen talk about this before. What this is missing that you don’t suggest this one for everybody? Or is it just some quality stuff?
Thanks. I decided to send back the Mikro as I really prefer somehting that will fit in with iPad workflow. So, now just to settle on a pad controller that works with iPad, that will allow me to map the pads
@Gordonrobb let us know if you find a good hardware solution for the iPad.
Will do. At the moment, I’m looking for some information on 2, the Presonos Atom and the (much more expensive) Nektar Aura. Very little information about iPad usage unfortantly
By now maybe you’ve seen this video demoing the Atom with an iPad: https://youtu.be/9JTP35yt3BE
I do recommend the Steven Slate Drums Free kit now in my updated gear recommendations article as the cheapest solution.
There’s nothing wrong with it, but its obviously just one kit and a lot of the lessons i made before this thing existed have sounds from addictive drums.
That cannot be changed obviously so if a student wants to play drums and would like his or her kit to sound the same as mine addictive drums is the best solution.
A future project for me could be to make some drum presets that sound nice in other drum software. Then ill include the free drum kit for sure!
I did see that one. So I know it ‘talks’ to iPad at least. Problem is I can’t find any information on whether I can remap the pads.
You mean the ATOM? I would probably play it with Cubasis, which has a lot of good kits in it. Assuming I can remap the keys How would you compare the quality of the pads between ATOM and Nektar Aura? Does it justify the price difference?
Ah sorry no, I edited my response to clarify. I thought the question was about the Free drumkit from steven slate instead of Addictive Drums 2 which costs money
The Atom is not my favorite, even though it’s decent. You just get more value for money with the Mikro mk3. Per dollar you get more “sensitivity” even though you’re paying $250 for it.
yeh, the Mikro is a no go as it doesn’t work with iPad. I meant comparing the ATOM to the Nektar Aura (which I’m fairly sure works with iPad).
Oke yes the Aura can be set to be much more responsive and sensitive than the atom! I’d say it responds 40% better to the softest hits.
