Solution, other than Addictive Drums

That guy has another video where he maps the pads on the iPad using beat maker three. I have ordered an Atom so I will let you know how it goes.

Yeh I saw that. It’s kind of the other way round though. He’s configuring beat maker to the Atom. I want to know if the Atom can be adjusted so that the pads send a different note from the default. Which is what it’ll have to do to get the QFG layout working. Let me know how you get on tho7gh for sure.

Hi @Gordonrobb what are your goals with using a pad controller on your iPad?

I just watched this video by Rob about why (performance quality) mobile finger drumming is not yet possible: https://youtu.be/5yKZjrjTUl0

That said it appears to be possible to use apps like BeatMaker 3/BeatHawk for mobile finger drumming with less-than-pro drum samples. I’m thinking that this could be useful for practicing.

I remember the days when you could not produce music on a laptop. You needed a fat desktop machine. That changed over the course of a couple of years and I’m convinced the next transition is well underway. Right now unfortunately you still have to deal with not getting “the pro stuff” on an ipad or phone. You get something that comes close but not the same thing… we’re almost there though!

My goals are to learn to finger drum using QFG method, but an a device I can attach to my iPad. I won’t be playing life, but do wan’t to be able to record drums that sound like a drummer, if that makes sense.

Yeh, you’re right. I used to record my own stuff 30 years ago, and the best I could do was a reel to reel tape deck, and very basic midi (at the time). The thing is the new iPad Pro’s are very powerful, so we should be able to get some good stuff. I’m very impressed with Cubasis. I have just finished mixing a version of Billy Eilish’s Bad Guy that was 24 tracks, half of them vocal tracks. And it hardly skipped a beat

Right, and all it takes is for a program like Addictive Drums 2 to release their plugin on Cubasis and then we’re good to go with the iPad setups!
