Double triggers/silence - hi hats

Just thought I’d mention this if it’s useful for anyone.

I’ve found on AD that on certain kits I would get double triggers or silences when playing 16ths on hi hats. After messing around with sensitivity settings, etc, it turns out the problem was with short hi hat samples. I found this most notable on the Funk kit.
My solution? Change the kit to something else or find a different hi hat sound. Generally, I found some kits play better than others.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Hey JayT,

A double trigger in my experience can always be seen in the recorded midi notes. It never seems to come from Addictive drums itself.

The amount of attack (or sharpness) of the hi hat sounds differs a lot between kits. The funk kit has some very present hats which might be why you hear the double triggers. For example the “Steely Tight” preset has some very very brutally present hi hats. It’s one of the hardest presets to play, even when you don’t hear double triggers. Probably because if you’re only a little bit off in your dynamics or timing it will sound like crap.

With some other presets, that have some more “air” between the listener and the kit, it will sound more natural and also less bad if you don’t play like some perfect robot

Hi Robert,

That’s good to know. I know what you mean on the steely tight kit. It’s frightening! Ha!
Thanks for the pointers.

I use the Funk Hi hat in AD and I also was struggling with that overly present sound until I brought down the Attack in the editor by a lot. It’s in the Tape and Shape section of the AD editor. I think it worked great. I really love the Funk hi hat sound now.
