Why does one pad light up all the others? Launchpad X Custom Failure

Hello,

I got a Launchpad X and I’ve set up a custom drum layout using Novation Components online. I assigned a MIDI note to the necessary pads, e.g. C1 for kick drums. Now when I press a C1 pad, all of the other C1 kick pads indicate they have been pressed. This makes doing snare rolls and so on impossible.

What have I done wrong? Is there another way I was supposed to have set up this rack?

I’m not 100% sure what the problem is. What I can say is that if you set one pad to note C1 and then another to C1 as well, you will see both of them light up when you hit one. That’s because the controller indicates all the C1 notes that are at that point activated.

I avoid this by giving each pad a unique note.

So: C1, C#1, D1, D#1, E1, F1, F#1, G1, G#1, A1, A#1, B1, C2, C#2 etc.

That way there are no double notes. Then I assign the sounds to specific pads using midi learn.

Ahhh gotcha. That explains it.

Thanks a lot
