For fun, I picked up a Soundbrenner haptic metronome. At first, I wasn’t sure about it—then the more I used it, the more I thought I hated it. It’s strangely easy to lose the beat in ways I never would with an audible click (haptics don’t have the same sharp onset, perceptually—or so I’ve heard). So I was asking myself: what’s the point?
But I stuck with it for a couple of weeks, and now I’m really coming around! It’s actually great to have the beat there without hearing it all the time (without the clicks interfering with my groove).
Honestly, I don’t really use the extra “smart watch” features of the Core2—it’s basically just a metronome with a few add-ons (there’s a cheaper version (the Pulse) for around $100). But one important thing: you need a stronger haptic pulse than what you’d get from a Garmin or Apple watch (I tried the metronome feature on my Garmin, and it wasn’t really up to snuff). The Soundbrenner delivers on the strength of the haptic pulse. I’ve been strapping it to my thigh, and it works nicely.
Worth checking out if you’re curious—or just a gear nerd like me.
