Other considerations

Hi, i think it should be mentioned other considerations when buying a pad. For example as a session view controller in ableton.
I’m new to this area and now i realize that i should have bought a pad that can also function as a controller for ableton live… I’m stuck with the recommendation of mikro mk3… Hard to sell…

Hey Wowo,

I do not test pad controllers for workflow in DAWs. You have to understand that this would greatly increase the number of configurations I would need to thoroughly check.

Maschine Mikro + Ableton
Maschine Mikro + Logic
Maschine Mikro + Reaper
Maschine Mikro + Cubase
Maschine Mikro + ProTools
Nektar Aruba + Ableton
Nektar Aruba + ProTools

Etc.

I’m testing for pad sensitivity and playability. All controllers I test can be used as midi controllers in all DAW’s, (including Ableton) but I’m not going to check every controller for everybody’s personal choice in DAW and desired workflow.

I also do not provide setup guides for specific DAWs with specific controllers. Again, this would lead to a large amount of possible combinations, with one change to one piece of software forcing me to rewrite the guides. The beginner course helps you to understand what needs to be done to get set up in general terms. You then have the freedom (and the burden) of figuring out how you want to approach things in that area.

The rest of the courses will be about playing drums on a pad controller and nothing else. No music production, mixing tips, etc. nothing like that.

Please understand this is not meant to be rude. I also understand these things can be frustrating and hard to wrap your head around as a beginner.

I just want to make very clear what it is that you can use my resources for and what you cannot find here. I don’t want there to be any confusion about that.

That said, there is some info written by other users on how they got things to work in Ableton. Ableton seems to be one of the more frustrating DAWs in terms of configuration with a pad controller for drumming.
