Acoustic Drumset

Hey folks, I’m putting together a drum kit from Addictive Drums 2 that I can use for accompanying live, acoustic music—largely guitar based, singer/songerwriter stuff.

First, is there any consensus on which base drum kit one would use in AD2? Second, has anyone ever tried the jazz brushes? I have no plans to learn jazz drums, but I’m wondering if they could be repurposed for quieter, acoustic (non-jazz) music. Has anyone ever run this exercise? Thoughts? Comments?

Here are some of the items I’ve selected (many of which you can pick up from various drum kits that you purchase).

Snare - side stick, rim click, and sticks
Cahon - snare
Cahon - bass
Ride bell
Hihat tip
tambourines (perhaps another of the “rhythm tech”).
Finger snap
Hand clap (3?)
Meinl wood block
Conga open and closed in tom slots (perhaps this dictates using the percussion set).

Others?

Thanks,
-David

All of those sound nice. You have the Percussion kit which you could try. Also yes, jazz brushes is a nice kit too and indeed softer attacks.

Many thanks, Robert. :folded_hands: I’ll keep playing around, though I’m surprised someone hasn’t come back with some definitive layout for this very common use case.
