Hi Robert,

Thanks for the excellent and thorough response.

I’m not hell-bent on mastering independence, nor am I a completionist in real life (outside of playing the Grand Theft Auto series :wink:). I’m just in that phase of learning finger drumming where I don’t know what I don’t know. Since I’ve been through the learning curve in other areas of my life, I’m trying to get a sense of what I don’t know, which is why I’ve been asking about independence.

Other YouTubers have argued for assigning specific fingers to specific parts of the kit, so when you mentioned early on in the lessons that there would be later lessons on hand independence, I assumed that’s where things were headed. But from your last two posts, it sounds like you don’t find that kind of independence especially useful—and that’s enough for me.

I also really appreciate your point about extended skill development following a personal journey. That makes a lot of sense and helps me frame what to focus on next. (For now I just wanna rock).

I named the project “The Quest for Groove” for a reason by the way. There is no “finger drumming” etc. in the name because I am 100% convinced that if you focus on timing and groove (so any beat, could be super simple, as long as it grooves) you will always get the most out of your time here. Even if you switch to another instrument later. It’s the one skill that always pays off musically.
