My fgdp50 Kick has very less volume, is it normal

Hi folks
Other keys are just working fine and sensitive, but my bass/kick key needs to be pushed really hard to be heard. Is it normal? I am attaching my video here https://www.youtube.com/shorts/u3uopPDFIas

First time posting message here  rookie for finger drum

I think this has happened for more people here. I think you can adjust the pad gain for the kick to sort of mitigate this issue. @Fannon was it you that had the same problem?

I had a similar issue and the following two kind of help mitigating it.

  • Changing the velocity curve for the kick pad to something like Offset3 helps getting consistent sound.
  • I found the center of the kick pad is less sensitive than edges, so adjust myself to hit near left or right edge side. This could be a unit-specific issue though, at least it works with mine.

Hope it helps

Yes, I had the same problem. Could be that it varies a bit from unit to unit.

But I think @nozaq has the right tip here. The velocity curve for the kick pad should have really been set to some Offset by default. It’s just that we all expect the kick to be much more consistent (less velocity dependent) than other parts of the kit. I think this is also how AD2 works out of the box. I’ve set my Kick pad even to “Offset4”.

Thanks folks. I think I got a much better result.

I think it’s also due to the small built-in speaker. When I listen via an external speaker, the kick drum sounds much louder.

Just a quick note, adjusting speker EQ setting would also help. Personally I set it to “Heavy”, which boosts low frequencies.

Hi !

I found that opening the unit and cleaning the contacts made a difference in the overall sensitivity.

It easy to open, just follow the video of the disassembly of this FGDP30, and don’t worry, you don’t need to understand what the guy is talking, LOL. It is basically the same for the FGDP50.

There are a lot of screws, just be patient.
There is no force to be made, so if the back or the board doesn’t get out is because you didn’t remove all the screws.

Pay attention and you should not have problems.

I did the procedure twice, one to clean the contacts and another when I dropped coffee on it, thankfully not over the speaker !!!

Also, I adjusted the pad gain of all pads for around 50, and set the curve for splice24 or heavy1 and played and decreased the gain until I played with max force (velocity) and checked the velocity in the little monitor of the pad adjustment to be 127. Like that I think got maximum range of playing.

For each user kit, you can change the volume of each instrument too.

Hope that this helps!
