Mobile Rig: Beta Version 0.1

OK, so I’ve been envisioning a mobile rig. Here, I’ve got two xjams velcro’d to my shorts at thigh-level, right where’d they’d be if you didn’t want to spend any extra effort using your shoulder muscles. They both connect via USB to the mac laptop in my back pack. Then the back pack has a single cord to the outside world—the one that goes to the amplifier/speakers.

So, this was the very first movie we took, and it’s clear that we need to solve the stability problems of the xjams just hanging off my quad muscles. I’m still a new drummer (one year of dedicated practice), but I’m way better than you hear me here  . That’s the xjams wiggling around like crazy and an entirely new setup.

Still, if I can solve the stability issues, I think could lead to a legit mobile rig.

Further detail:

  • Mac M4 laptop running amphetamine to keep it running while the top is closed.
  • Addictive Drum2 for sounds.
  • Ableton Live for all kinds of fun drum selection, volume control, and kit piece variation.

Interesting option. Here are a couple more mobile setup options. I think it’s better to mount the controllers on a board at waist level. But in general we have a hard time playing here even at the table

Too cool! I love both of these, but the one with the huge pad controller is wild!

What I’m trying to accomplish by keeping thes down at the waist is minimal arm or shoulder effort. I’ve definitely noticed, the even when playin on a horizontal table, it’s not nearly as effortless as if i’m just reclining on the couch (with the two xjam pads on a sturdy piece of plastic on my lap). If I can get it both effortless and stable then I think I’m onto something.

To be continued…
