Dragon Drums guy shutting down his website

This might be of relevance to the folks on this forum. YouTube link.

TL;DR of the 20-minute video:

  • He’s moving on to focus on spiritual development.
  • The website is shutting down, no more content.
  • For $100, you can get everything he’s ever created.
  • Talks at length about his vision of making a stand-alone finger drumming kit; doesn’t mention FGDP once.

Oh wow. Believe it or not, but I totally understand where he’s coming from. He made the decision to actually make a clean “cut” and move on to bigger and better things.

I totally recognize the energy cycle of about 5 to 7 years. Going all in, grinding out the content and videos etc. and then… if you cannot expand your business and bring other people in (like Drumeo, or Scotts Bass Lessons) at some point your energy sort of has to shift to other things.

I got an office job, dealt with health issues etc. and am completely fine with keeping everything for the QFG running, doing a livestream etc. (and since my Yamaha meeting I do feel the itch to start recording some new stuff at least about the FGDPs… who knows)

But the cycle… and that at some point you have to move on completely (dragon) or partially (me) is a very real thing.

I find this also very relatable - actually both ways how to deal with it.

Yes—very relatable. I’ve walked around few different blocks myself, and when the senioritis hits, my antidote is usually to throw myself into the project and get excited again.

Honestly, the FGDP seems to have real legs right now. I’ve probably “sold” four of them in the last six months just by showing my friends what I’m up to on the pads! If you do have new video ideas brewing, I—and I think the broader community—would love to see them!

The dragon guy’s website is still up… now apparently shutting down March 1st. Putting aside the going-out-of-business sale that’s lasted nearly six months, I have a legit question.

If one doesn’t adopt the dragon guy’s pad layout (no chance that’ll happen for me), is there any value in the content? There’s no doubting the guy drums like a beast, so I’m wondering if the 100 bucks is worth it to get some additional finger-drum specific content. I ask especially as I begin to see the finish line for the QFG content.

I know a few people on this site have actually purchased his course. Comments or opinions on my question: worth it if I don’t use his layout?

Thanks! :folded_hands:

Spending money on education is generally a good thing. Better than buying a new device in a fit of GAS :slightly_smiling_face:

But on the other hand, you like the QFG layout and you’ve already bought the whole course. I think that knowledge will last you a lifetime!

I used only the free QFG materials, and the most useful advice from Robert was to practice regularly, even if it’s just 10 minutes a day. Huge thanks to him for that!
