hey im on section. 4 lesson 3 and i really cant the timing right. i spent a week on lesson 2 and now im few days in on lesson 3, i get the dynamics pretty right. but my timing is really off and not really getting improve. especially with the backing bass and guitar
should i move on to other lesson? or continue with these one?
Some general self-observation on this: When I’m stuck like that, it usually means that I’ve hit something that my brain has to rewire for or my body has to build up new muscles. That’s hard work and will take time. We’re talking weeks now, not days - it’s not you being stupid or unfit for the task, it’s you having to change your body/brain first.
Problem is, it’s hard to judge if this barrier is fine and you should continue with it (depends on your discipline, too) or if it’s better to move on. For motivation it’s often better to move on and find something where the next step isn’t as steep and get over that. At some point, you return and find that now suddenly, the barrier is gone or much easier than before.
But if you really want to grow, those steep barriers are where you make the real progress. The skill in learning and teaching is to judge this for the students and break it down into smaller challenges that keep you going and making small improvements. So I agree - it’s better to either move on or start breaking down the challenge into something more manageable, where you’ll start seeing progress sooner. Just don’t get demotivated - you’ll get there, and suddenly it will feel and look easy!
