Greetings to all friends of the community. I have been playing piano completely amateurly as a hobby for the last 5 years. I want to get more involved with finger drumming so that I can make some of my own loops as backing tracks for the songs I play on the piano.
Unfortunately, at this moment I do not have the financial means to buy a midi pad controller, I looked for other alternatives. So I found the midi poly grind android app to try it on my windows 10 pc with the akai mpc beats. I will use a samsung galaxy A8 tablet as a midi pad controller via a usb-otg connection to the computer. The tablet supports midi data transfer.
So I want to ask if anyone has tried something similar and it works. In a quick google search I found that the mpc beats is compatible with any midi-usb device. Will this temporary solution help me start finger drumming at least until I can buy a real midi pad controller?

Android devices sometimes have awful latency (touchscreen, audio). But it does depend on the device a lot. Probably you have to try it out to see if it works well enough. Would be interested how well it works!

Another app could be this: [Koala Sampler – Apps bei Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elf.koalasampler&hl=de)

It let’s you also sample / record sounds and you can play it right on the device itself, making it a standalone groovebox. Can be really fun and creative.

Do you have a piano-like MIDI controller, or have you been playing a piano that does not have a MIDI-out?

If you have MIDI from your piano controller, you can finger drum there. Most DAW software will start with some mapping between MIDI notes and drum kit pieces.

I am the developer of Midi Poly Grid. Thanks for noticing my little app 🙂

Most Android devices support being used as a generic Midi controller with any USB host device. So if the MPC acts as a USB host for midi connections, you can use an Android device as a MIDI controller.

By the way, if anyone who is using the app for finger drumming has any ideas for how to improve it, please let me know 🙂
